Able Seaman Robert William Standidge served on board HMS Shah during the Zulu War and was entitled to the South Africa Medal without clasp. Sailors from H.M. ships “Boadicea” and “Shah” both provided men for an honor guard at Durban for the Prince Imperial when the Navy received his body for transport back to England. Standidge, who was part of the “Shah’s” crew not serving with the Naval Brigade, could very well have been part of that honor guard.
