The other coal connection was Dugal McPhail, isandlwana survivor from the Buffalo Border Guard. From Dundee he established the coal mining operations, still going today, in the area.

Pop up to Talana Museum next time your there Kate, there a lot of info on Dugal. He ended up as one of the most influential men in the area.

Last time I was up there was in 2019 and saw his headstone (cracking little book stall in the shop). Had a nice chat with Pam and yes the museum is very interesting. Hopefully be up there again in November and will look out for the Macphail/mining info.
