William Tucker attested 8 May 1877 age 18, born Shepton Mallet Somerset 1859/60, ex Somerset L I Militia No.7622 from 3 Jan 1877, to 2/13th 2 May 1877, to 1/13th 26 Jan 1878 No.1365, to S Africa 5 Feb 1878, Pretoria 22 April 1878, Sekukuni Campaign 11 Sept 1878, Zulu 78/79, arrived Devonport 18 Sept 1879. Discharged at Taunton 1 May 1889 12 yrs. Married Elizabeth [Ann or Ama] Penny at Shepton Mallet 13 Oct 1879, re-enlisted 21 March 1900 2nd Batt Royal Southern Reserve Regt, No.970, age 40, discharged 20 March 1901. 1901 census 9 Cowl St, Shepton Mallet, he is a Gen Labourer, M Elizabeth 3 children, 1911 census 45 Pike Lane Shepton Mallet, M Elizabeth 2 children, he seems not to be working. William died on 22 Dec 1942 aged 79, at his daughters 66 Cowl Street, Shepton Mallet. He was on a Army Pension to at least 22 Nov 1928.
