Empress Eugenie - Captain Bigge R.A. is now in the City making the necessary transport arrangments for the conveying the Empress Eugenie to Zululand.Th eparty will camp out all the way, the season of the year being so mild.

Natal Witness Saturday 8th May 1880 The Ex Empress Eugenie and suite passed though Greytown on Monday on route for Ityotyozi.

Natal Witness Thursday 13th May 1880 The Empress at Utrecht Utrecht May 11 4.55pm Empress, Genral Wood and suite arrived here at 11am and left again at 3pm for Conference Hill.
Natal Witness Thursday 17th June 1880 Her Majesty and suite were expected at Estcourt yesterday and were supposed to pay a visit to Major General Lloyd
But a later article stated she didn't visit Major Genral Lloyd. Natal Witness 24th June 1880

I wonder why the meeting with Major-General Lloyd did not take place, given that his son Llewelyn Lloyd had been killed at Hlobane?

Natal Witness Saturday 26th June 1880 The Empress Eugenie arrived in the City at 2 o'clock on Saturday, left again on Monday morning and arrived at Durban in the evening where she was the guest of Capt. Baynton during her stay.
Natal Witness Tuesday 29th June 1880 Departure of the Empress - Her Majesty and Suite left the Point, Durban at 3 o'clock pm on Sunday in the tug and embarked on the Trojan a few minutes afterwards which then weighed anchor and stood off to sea. A large number of the leading colonists had assembled to see Her Majesty depart. His Execellency General Cliff accompanied Her Majesty to the last.

Major-General Banastre Pryce Lloyd (1824 - 1882), held the lowly rank of Captain in 1879 in the Weenen Yeomanry, part of the Natal Volunteer Force.
