Firstly I would say that this post is not meant to darken or slight the bravery of these two officers.
Additionally I would assume that back in that past it has probably been discussed before.
The VC citations for the Hospital defenders go in to some detail their actions for which they were recommended for the VC.
However the citations for Chard and Bromhead in short say "because they were there and in command"
So given the lengths that soldiers have to go through to get recommended for the VC.... (here it comes

) - should they (B&C) have been recommended and awarded the VC?
