Zero tolerance to harassment and bullying. |

| The sentance of 5 years penal servitude on Colour-Sergeant Dickaty, of the 60th Rifles for neglect of duty when on outpost near Etshowe has been quoshed by the Judge Advocate General owning to illegality, and he has been ordered to join the depot at Winchester. Natal Witness 26th August 1879

| From memory Dickety was the one who was blamed or instrumental in the alarm at Fort Newdigate ( Ft Funk ) , which I think nearly resulted in Chard V.C. nearly being shot !! , Chard and his men were forced to take cover behind a rock wall ? 90th |

Wrong “friendly-fire” incident. Colour-Sergeant Dickaty was in charge of the piquets that opened fire on John Dunn’s Scouts, believing them to be members of the Zulu army.
A number of John Dunn’s people were killed and wounded. Off the top of my head John Dunn screamed out words to the effect “You are killing my children!”

| Hi All John Dickaty attested 22 march 1867 aged 20, born 1847 Overton Whitchurch Hampshire, to 4/60, transferred 3/60 1 feb 1870, Married Essie Price 7 May 1876 at Holy Trinity Dover, to S Africa 19 feb 1879 arriving Natal 20 March 1879, to 10 July 1879. inconfinement 11 July 1879, sentenced squashed 18 July 1879. Discharged 23 Oct 1888 at Winchester 21 yrs. 1891, 1901, 1911, 1921 census Bramdean Common, Hinton Ampner, Alresford, Hampshire, he is a Gardener then Army pensioner, His wife dies between 1891 and 1901 leaving him with 7 children. He dies Sept Qtr 1924 in Alresford District, aged 77. Rai KLH |
