Levi Worthington a private in the Kings Dragoon Guards will be charged with the murder of a native near Helpmakaar.

Levi Worthington attested 25 May 1874 aged 19, born 1854/55 Gawsworth, Macclesfield, Cheshire, to 1st KDGds No.1334. 'B' Troop. He was not the model soldier, 13 Oct 1874 26 days imprisonment AWOL, 18 sept 1876 84 days prison Deserted, 12 Feb 1877 42 days prison AWOL, 11 June 1877 336 days prison Deserted, 13 June 1879 Corporal Punishment Flogged 50 Lashes, 26 Jan 1880 168 hours prison with hard labour, 7 Aug 1880 43 days prison. No mention of any Civil Murder case in 1879. To S Africa 27 feb 1879, Natal 10 April 1879 spent first 8 days in Hospital. To India 28 Sept 1880. Discharged 27 Feb 1883 at Netley probably Varicose Veins. Married Annie Heath 1883 West Derby District Lancashire. 1891 census Walton on the Hill West Derby, he is a Coal Dealer, M to Annie 2 kids, 1901 and 1911 census Bootle West Derby, he is a coal Hewer, M to Annie 4 Children. He Dies March Qtr 1919 West Derby District Lancashire Aged 65.
