| hi all. I am currently reading " The glamour and the tragedy of the zulu war " by W.H. CLEMENTS . Written in 1936. My copy is a reprint which is published by DP& G press, they reprint many of the books which are no longer available or require a mortgage to purchase one. It has accounts of those who survived Isandlwana and also some Zulu accounts of Isandlwana , without spoiling it , He lays the blame with Chelmsford and Durnford and to a smaller degree Pulleine , Some interesting points he raises and relays from those who were caught up in the war , I have only read 140 pages out of 340 and find it a no -holds barred account of what happened back in 1879, he isnt ( wasnt ) afraid to speak his mind. I will post a link to DP&G publishers , I think it is well and truly worth the 30 quid required . If any one buys a copy , please tell me what you think . :)

| hi john. This isnt a very detailed review of " THE GLAMOUR AND THE TRAGEDY OF THE ZULU WAR " by W.H. CLEMENTS . But here goes !. I found it a WONDERFUL read. There are a couple of minor errors typo"s only. He covers the events leading up to war on both sides , full of many stories , facts etc etc about the conflict . He also visited Isandlwana only a year or so after the battle and spoke to some of the zulus who took part on that fateful day 22/1/79. He also speaks to some of the colonial troops who escaped Isandlwana . He also speaks to others who escaped from Hlobane . Also deals with the other battles as well , Prince Imperial"s time in Sth africa including his trip back to England for burial. Wilson Black"s report on the Burials at Isandlwana . Many other aspects of the war, it runs to 333 pages, 16 B&W pictures. I paid 44 quid , plus postage 7 quid so it was qiute expensive . But in my mind , worth every cent . I know DP&G PRESS sell it for 30 quid but you must live in the U.K. I will post the link. Hope this helps . cheers 90th. |
