2nd Lieutenant. Campbell, R. Lieut. Brown was commanded the 1st Squadron Mounted Infantry. Was present at the battles of Khambula and Ulundi. received the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery in saving the life of a trooper in the attack made by the enemy on the Khambula camp. Lieuts. Heaton and Clements served with the batt. through the war, and were present at the battle of Ulundi; Lieuts. Spring and Roche served under Lieut. Col. Harrison on detachment at St. John’s River throughout the war; Lieut. Palmes proceeded with the batt. to Ladysmith, and was there invalided; Lieut. Llo yd, under Capt. Rainforth, at Greytown and Helpmakaar, and was present at the battle of Ulundi; Lieuts. Connolly Moore, Williams, Godfrey, Yorstoun, and Campbell served with the batt. throughout the latter phase of the war, taking part in the march to Ulundi.
