PostSubject: Survivor/ancestor from Isandlwana....   carbineers - ISANDLWANA SURVIVIORS EmptyMon Mar 29, 2010 4:01 am

This is a great forum, and I'm pleased to name this gentleman:

Trooper Robert J. M. Kincade

We've only recently learned that this is one of our ancestor's, and he survived the Battle at Isandlwana.

Wonderful idea by the way, NOW, if only my family and I could find a picture of this gentleman....we're still researching!

Hi Dave, I have most, if not all the Osprey books on the Zulu War so between them & searching on the net I can find most uniform colours for the AZW.
They may not be spot on but pretty near to what they would have looked like.

Do you know I never even noticed that. I wonder if this is the original photo Stalker used for his book. I got it from the Pietermaritzburg Archives so I think another trip is in order to see what else is hidden away there

Hi My great great grand father John James White was a survivor of Isandlwana. He was a Sergent Farrier with the C & T Corp and later became a Chelsea Pensioner. I have a picture of him in his pensioners uniform and he is wearing his medal reversed to show the date.He had a gun carrage funeral. I have always wondered how many survived the battle and was interested to see this site.

Wil try - I have scanned and saved the photo & newspaper cutting of his funeral but am not sure how to attach a file to this reply - not really IT literate! I can do it with a normal e-mail.

Loved looking at the pictures up top, good and clear, you're able to see faces and read the names of the soldiers.

We're still doing research about our ancestor, Trooper Robert J. Kincade, have sent out several inquiries, no response as yet.

Have a pleasant day/evening!

I know you're right. As I've said earlier, this is a great forum, lots of fascinating reading and wonderful photos to look at.

We won't ever look at Zulu and Zulu Dawn again the same way!

I am writing a historical saga which starts just before the Ango Zulu War. Can anyone tell me what happened to any of the survivors of Isandlwana.? I have a character who needs to fight on until the end of the war. Also, I need a regiment which fought in both Zulu War and Anglo boer War. So far I have the 17th lancers. Again, a character who needs to fight in both wars. This looks like a fabulous forum I wish I'd discovered it 7 years ago when I started this novel!!

oh, i should have said that my survivor should preferably have been attached to the 2/24th. I know G company stayed behind and did not go with Chelmsford that day but don't know if any of them survived (or disappeared that I could "make" survive)
