My Great-grandfather Thomas Philip Brown No.1118 a Colours Sergeant in the 1/24 regiment was killed at the Battle of Isandlwana. I have researchd to try and trace his medal , only to discover at Brecon that his medal had been "returned" by his mother in1883. The mystery is, who was it returned to and where is it now??, his only son my Grandfather or any of his family in Ireland never received it. Thomas wife Julia Worthington Brown is buried in St.Finbarr's cemetery, Cork city in an unmarked grave, would she have received any form of pension to raise her son who was two when his father was killed,? any information would be gratefully received, thank you. Gloria.

Hi Gloria,
I'm not sure what happened to medals returned to the Regiment?
What I can confirm is that the medal is NOT held by the museum at Brecon. The only 1/24th Sjt. in their possesion is Thomas COOPER.
Good luck.
