Hi Guys. First post for a long time. "Did They Or Didn’t They Take Part In The Zulu War Of 1879" Great Idea. I looking for information on a Adolf Heinrich Carstensen he was issued theclasp 1879. Any information what so ever please. Its also said that he was awarded the iron cross. ? Was there an Iron Cross awarded in the 1870's. Or may have been awarded the Cross in WW1.

Adolf Heinrich Carstensen. SOUTH AFRICA Clasp 1879 / IRON CROSS 2nd CLASS 1870
Sekonde-Lieutenant Carstensen served in the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 9. Commissioned on 21 Sep 1870,
he was awarded the EKII for actions during the seige of Metz . He made his way to South Africa and fought in the Zulu War probably
Morosi Campaign medal is named to: Lieutenant in the Cape Mounted Yeomanry. In 1880 he joined the Cape Mounted Rifles and fought
in the Gun War (MID’s and in various books).He left the CMR’s after the War in 1881 and died in 1909 in German S.W Africa .
Carstensen kept a keen interest in and contact with Artillery as two documents were found in Pretoria :The first was a letter from
Carstensen to General Joubert regarding his trip to the Artillery Camp. The second is a letter from Carstensen to Joubert thanking him for
giving his permission for Carstensen to communicate with Krupp.
