So they thought then that the Zulu's were heading for Natal.

Hi 24th . Not sure thats what it's supposed to mean , but the Zulu Army had to march toward Natal to attack Chelmsford's column . For the simple reason that is where they were camped 9 miles or so from R.D. . cheers 90th.

It reads as though, the Zulu was heading straight towards Natal, but on the way, stumbled across Glynn’s column. As we know the Zulu were hiding in the valley not marching.
