| Where would Filter and Larsen fit in? Both were young lads involved in the Zulu War in the Entombe area! Both got killed in action eventhough not during any of the major battles. |

| Johann,
Neither are listed in the Casualty List as given, however they should both appear as:
Kaffarian Rifles (or Vanguard);
Trooper L. Larsen, killed during a recce on the Tafelberg Stronghold, 18th May 1879.
Civilian;
Acting Interpreter H. Filter, killed in action with six native Border Police, Ntombe River, 7th June 1879.
Details from 'They Fell Like Stones' by John Young.

| 90th,
But those, like a lot of the names given above , are not Zulu War casualties.

| Has anyone any idea where Lebeak's Staadt is? In the Colonial Forces casualty list Reg Sgt Maj R Wilson of Ferreira's Horse is mentioned as KIA there on 14th May 1879. I can find no mention of it anywhere. Many thanks. |

| Lebeak's Staadt. I have spend hours looking for this place. And it just doesn't exist. Could the spelling be wrong. Or was it a small encounter on the back of one of the larger battles. This one is going to be one of those little mysteries me thinks?

| There are certainly some discrepancies here. In 'Forgotten Heroes - Zulu and Basuto Wars' there are two R. Wilsons listed. Regt Sgt Major R Wilson (KIA14/5/79 at Lebeak's Staadt) and Sgt R Wilson (slightly wounded 14/4/79 at Lebeak's Staadt). Presumably the same man? Then we have another date of death listed in God, Queen and Colony (23/11/79 in Sekukuniland). Could he have been wounded at Lebeak's Staadt wherever that was in April/May and then KIA on the Sekukuni campaign in November? Or was Lebeak's Staadt somewhere in Sekukuniland? Not sure we'll ever know for sure! |

| Neil,
Judging by the comments in 'The London Gazette' entry I would say it was in the land of baPedi, in what used to be known as the Transvaal, I was up in that neck of woods last year, and Sekhukhune's name crops up all the time, I wonder if Lebeak was another Pedi?

| Hi All. Just to make it more confusing ........... Casualty Roll For The Zulu And Basuto Wars 1877- 79 by I. Tavender . Says that Regt Sgt Majors - E. Caulfield KIA Sekukuni's Kraal 28 / 11 / 79 . R. Wilson KIA Lebeak's Staadt 14 / 5 / 79 !!!!! BUT ............ In For God , Queen & Colony by T. Sole . It states Edward Caulfield replaced Wilson as RSM and no mention of him being KIA ( Caulfield ). It mentions only one Wilson in its roll which says KIA 23 / 11 / 79 RSM . Wilson , Robert . Very Frustrating to say the least . . cheers 90th. |
