| Agree with DB14. Is the new look better, or just different? I can't see any better features. If it aint broke, don't fix it etc. Having played on the new look one for a bit, the colours were harder on my eyes.

| Hi Admin, The reason I joined this forum besides the wealth of information was the easy layout and navigation of the site. I am with the others - it is not broken so why fix it.

| Hello, That new design looks very neat, easy to navigate, the old (current one) is very good anyway, either would still make this a very easy site to get on with - good effort on the new one! |

| Subject: 1879 Zulu War - Border Horse - Trooper J Davey Thu Nov 09, 2017 5:28 pm | |
| Hi, I am a new member and really impressed with the friendly and helpful posts in this forum. In the search for more information about my antecedent I was wondering how to source the regimental number of (whom I think is) my great grandfather, any medals he may have received posthumously and where the graves are (if any) or memorial of the fallen in the battle at Inhlobane on 28 March 1879? Any information whatsoever would be very much appreciated. |

| Hi Handja21 Welcome to the Forum , your Great Grandfather J . Davey was KIA at Hlobane , and was entitled to the Medal with Clasp 1879 , unfortunately it seems it wasnt claimed by a relative , so consequently it was returned to Woolwich Mint, where it was melted down . There were 246 medals awarded to the Border Horse of which 143 Medals & Clasps were returned to Woolwich / Mint . There is no Graveyard at Hlobane ( with the exception of the single Campbell / Lloyd Grave , and the Piet Uys grave on itentenda neck ) nor is there a memorial listing those who were KIA , on , or near the Mtn . In the Publication ' For God , Queen & Colony ' by Terry Sole ( who was murdered recently in Sth Africa ! ) He has Trooper Davey ( Darcy ) John , KIA Hlobane 28/ 3/ 79 , From Scotland , Enlisted at Pretoria . I'll see what else I can find . Cheers 90th

| Handja21 Seems in the Dennison ( who was 2nd in command of the Border horse ) Casualty return of Hlobane your Great Grandfather is Listed as Trooper Dary ( unless it's a typo during the book's printing ) He states 40 out of the Border Horse's compliment off 55 were killed at Hlobane . I can tell you that the Border Horse were killed at the opposite end of Hlobane to where Devils Pass is located , many of these poor unfortunates were hurled over the Mountain's precipice while still alive , I hope your GGrandfather wasnt one of those men . 90th |

| There is an excellent description in ' Zulu Frontiersman ' edited by Lock & Quantrill using Major C.G Dennison's notes and reports . The report in Sole's ' For God , Queen & Colony is in fact the Dennison Report . It'll cost you 50 GBP's for the Terry Sole book , if you search online for ' Zulu Frontiersman ' it'll be much cheaper I'd expect . 90th |

| Hi Graves Yes that's fairly cheap . Although there isnt a great deal on the Zulu war and least there's his description of Hlobane and Kambula from memory . 90th |
