| Hi Karen After doing a few internet searches, I see that you have been researching William Gregson for many years now. Good to see that you have never given up. The only things I have come across just make things a little confusing. This is what I have found: I have found William Gregson listed in the 1861 Census as a Private which would add up with his enlistment off 1860. His age of 21 also matches with a birth date of around 1840. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Now this is where it becomes unclear, His place of birth is given as Derby - Longford. I have not been able to find a birth registered for him in Derbyshire. Then I came across the following: William GREGSON, 21+, bachelor, born in Whaley Bridge, Cheshire, Private, 1st Battalion, 24th Regiment, married 16th January 1867 to, Fanny FALVERY, 21+, spinster, born in Glenmore, the daughter of John and Julia Falvery.Yet again I was not able to find a birth registered in Cheshire. There are 10 registered births in 1840 for William Gregson but none match the information I have so far. I will keep looking and will update this thread if I find anymore information. |
