The Cricket Club I used to play for many years ago have a veterans trip annually ; so we are off to the Sunny Gold Coast in Qld for 3 days , I only came back from there yesterday after 6 days there with the Mrs !. Dont see me doing any 3 - 4 hr shopping sprees next weekend , maybe to the Bar then the bistro will see me out !. :lol: :lol: Shocked

yes a photo of anstey would be interesting.. i dont think ive seen a phot of him in civilian dress

the chap in that photo is godwin austen .. frederick godwin austens elder brother who was
injured during the cape frontier war

Unfortunately there are still many I dont have , Anstey , Pullen , Younghusband & Pope to name a few but will post the rest of the album asap !. Need to get one of the kids on board to take the pics then I need to send them to Pete ( Admin ). I know he's very busy with work and Springbok's photos , so some pateince may be required . :lol:

These photo's that you are posting are indeed much appreciated, and it's very good of you to share them with all of us on the forum.

Pete is doing a fine job posting them up on the site, even though he must be rushed off his feet.

The old album photo's are great, and springboks pictures are brilliant (especially for those of us who have not much hope of ever getting to S.A.)

I am sure that I speak for all of the members when I say a big THANK YOU to all three of you.

The comparison with a modern day shot shows a huge shape change over the years

I'm sure I've seen this photo reproduced in several books over the years and although the photo is undated in the Album , I believe its late 1879 - 1881 . I'm not home so unfortunately cant check any of the books .

Although I havent as yet been to Isandlwana I can tell from the books I've read and from what others have posted on here and written in books and elsewhere that
the vegetation has increased many many times over since 1879 . I think I read somewhere that Ian Knight said 90 % in some areas !!.

Not really the vegetation, the whole mountain shape has changed. the lower plateau is a lot lower and flatter.
