[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Born: Robert William Hoskins October 26, 1942 in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, UK Bob Hoskins played C.S.M. Williams. Zulu Dawn.
I thought he should have a thread as well, given his great esteem. He just announced his retirement from acting due to Parkinson's disease. A real tragedy. He was fairly unknown when he did Zulu Dawn, but in my opinion, he was the most memorable character of the lot. He outshone three greatly respected actors: Peter O'Toole, Burt Lancaster and Denholm Elliott.

He was one of my favorite characters on Zulu Dawn. My favorite scene was when he took a knobkerrie away from the Zulu and bashed it over the Zulu's head with his own knobkerrie.

Yes i noted with sadness the announcement last year that Bob was retiring from films and public life due to the onset of Parkinson's..such a cruel illness! he passed today, with pneumonia attributed to his final fight.. i remember when he starred in Dennis Potter's ' Pennies from Heaven '. what a revelation potter was on a young mind!. i followed Bob's career from then on..maybe Bob was a bit typecast at times ( cockney gangster types ) but his performances in ' the long good friday ' and others like ' mona lisa ' will i'm sure stand the test of time. there are very few ' entertainer's ' who as a commercial say's.. ' does what it says on the tin! '. if i knew Bob had a role in a film i could watch it with the assurance that at least there would be class performance from him! you cant say that about many, the stars, real star's are all but gone. so rest in peace Bob. cheers mate.

With his formuidable performance in Zulu Dawn, he was the man who had given to me interest in the Zulu war and in the Victorian army. Salute Mister Hoskins.

What a shame. One of the best actor gone! He was one of the best actors in British film history.
Is odd in that we talk about those, who actually took part in the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. And now most of the actors who portrade them, have followed the same path. And I mean nearly all!

Very sad, a real nice chap in real life, and a great actor.
R.I.P. Bob, you will be missed.

Interesting point, presently on local TV we have a re run of Made in Dagenham. It is a roll so very different from his norm, but he still made it his own. And next week he is on again in a movie with a few animated charactors. Weird.
