Hello All

As you may have can be seen , W . Lloyd has seen with his eyes , the vérérans of the 1/24 th foot before Isandhlwana because theses soldiers are represented in it's light -hearted sketches with :

- Band of hide round the stock and barrel of theirs Martini-Henry rifles for a great confort...
I thought it was forbidden ???

- Their bayonet frogs are on the top of their havesacks ???
I thought it was forbidden ???

- Their cuff designs are not formed by white braid tape coming to a point and not possed
trefoil knots ???

- The design after W.Lloyd completely encircle the sleeve as on the tunics of the british
infantry after the 1881 british infantry réorganisation???

It's a artistic license or the cuff design of the vérérans of the 1/24 th foot before and at
Isandhlwana were really like this ?

Cheers

Pascal

I would imagine, he only painted what he saw. Why would he make alterations. Good observations Pascal.

In my opinon , the poor soldiers patched up their outfits as they could and re-manufactured the siding sleeves of their coats as they could...

They must have been terrible differences between the uniforms of the two battalions of the 24 th at Isandhlwana...

Now I make 1/56 th scales figures for a complete company of the 1/24 th in the uniforms as painted by Lloyd...

Hi Pascal / CTSG.
Lloyd isnt the only one who painted it as he saw it , The Road To Ulundi by J.N.Crealock is full of paintings by Crealock of every day life in camp and on the march through Zululand and his paintings are in the same vein as Lloyds . Another Peerless witness as stated by Pascal .
