Subject: The most egregious failure ! Thu Jul 11, 2013 10:10 am
Hi all
The most egregious failure to respond occurred at around 1:30 pm when a message from Hamilton-Browne stating, "For God's sake come back, the camp is surrounded, and things I fear are going badly", was received by Lieutenant-Colonel Harness Royal Artillery and Major Black of the 2/24.
They were leading the other four RA guns as well as two companies of the 2/24 and on their own initiative immediately marched back towards Isandlwana and had gone some two miles when they were ordered to return to Mangeni Falls by an aide sent by Chelmsford.
Why ?
Cheers

Hi Rascal . From memory Gosset was with Harness when the message arrived from Hamilton - Brown , Harness decided to head toward Isandlwana , Gosset rode back to LC to inform him of Harness's decision , after Harness and his troops had covered a mile or two , Gosset arrived back informing Harness he was to turn back and head toward LC . This was stated by Capt Church who was with Harness also from memory , I also dont think Church was ever called upon during the BOI !! . I've posted Church's statement on here previously . Try the search box and using Capt Church or something similar . I'm not home so cant check any books , I'm certain its in Jackson's ' Hill Of The Sphinx '' . DB16 has no doubt seen it previously , as has Springbok . 90th

Harness, decided to head Toward Isandlwana, without the permission of LC ? Incredible !

Hello All
Yes then LC was not as bad as this, if the officers could launch strategic maneuvers without warning!
Best regards
