Here's a nice one just picked up on Ebay. Lt William Weallens 1/24th taken on 10 Feb 1881 and wearing his Zulu War medal. Weallens was with Chelmsford on 22 January and his letters home appear in Frank Emery's "The Red Soldier.

I had to part with 52 GBP, which I think is not too bad, particularly as I have his personal copy of "Historical Records of the 24th". It is signed and dated 10 February 1881 on the back - I do not know whether the date has any particular significance, but it does say "Byrne and Co. Photographers to her Majesty".

Actually Frank Emery lifted the letters from the Uppingham School Journal vol XVII published late in 1879 - the journal also contains letters from other old boys - Lt Hayward FLH and Lt White 90th - there still a lot of info about AZW to find if you look.

Weallens' CDV wasn't well described on Ebay and I only came across it by chance about an hour before it closed. Explains why you and others didn't see it I expect.
His copy of the Regimental History is rather special as well, it has, bound in, a number of the original uniform watercolours by Richard Simkin that appear as plates in the standard edition - and some that do not appear like the example below. Weallens was adjutant at the time (1891) and this must be a presentation copy I think. Not an Ebay find though!
