Zulu Dawn! Lt. Col. Pulleine : His Lordship is of the cetain opinion that it's far too difficult an approach to be chosen by the Zulu command. Col. Durnford : Yes, well... difficulty never deterred a Zulu commander.

Can we really read anything into this, even if it's between the lines. Or is it as clear as day. Simply move to the camp.

I may have missed it, but I didn't see any mention of his Drinking and Gambling habits.

Thanks for posting this, but I don't understand the last line...specifically the use of the word "misquote." I'm sure I ought to know the significance, but I don't.

Impi,

The gambling is there, as to his drinking is there a verified source for that?

6pdr,

The Natal Carbineers' memorial reads thus:

Not Theirs To Save The Day
But Where They Stood,
Falling To Dye The Earth
With Brave Men's Blood
For England's Sake And Duty
-Be Their Name Sacred
Among Us-
Neither
Praise Nor Blame
Add To Their Epitaph--
But Let It Be Simple As That Which
Marked Thermopylae.
Tell It In England Those
That Pass Us By,
Here, Faithful To Their Charge,
Her Soldiers Lie.

As you can see 'Their' becomes his.

Gambling and drinking normally go hand in hand...

Still money, men's lives, doesn't matter to a gambler

Sorry to hear it SAS1, but my point is not that you aren't entitled to your opinion based on personal circumstances.  He was making sweeping generalizations without any reference to a statistical basis, or a qualification that makes me think he would know the actual correlation. I have my own grudges parent-wise, but that does not make me a social psychologist.  My guess is that had Young considered drink and gambling relevant to his profile, he would have mentioned them as he does Durnford's depressions.  I found the profile fair and balanced.  - 6pdr

John Young only missed the Drinking off. So let's keep the gambling. But i do agree with Impi. Drink and Gambeling, likes Egg's and Bacon. Reading between the lines and in hindsight that is!
