This is not a uniform worn by 24th Foot or South Wales Borderers. Officer?
There were two soldiers named Joseph Green in 24th at the time of the Anglo-Zulu war:
1. 2-24/406 - promoted CSgt 20/4/1876 awarded LS&GC Medal in 1877, became Sgt Maj of the Depot in Brecon. Never served in South Africa. If you did some research you probably find him on the 1881 census.
2. 1-24/524 or 1-24/724, Pte on the South Africa medal roll, came out to South Africa from the depot with the 'Clyde' draft.

| Frédéric,
Check your pm's.
John,
I agree with Kenny, it looks to me like an officer in Mess Dress, certainly not an other-rank in the 24th.

| Yet on the following link http://www.rogerco.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/list122/list122.htm
He is described as Sarony & Co. 66 New St. Birmingham [ Soldier officer in dress uniform 1870s?] with no reference to the 24th.
In his right hand the man in the photograph is holding a 'pillbox' forage with a decorated braid, an item of uniform more associated with mounted troops rather than the P.B.I.
A few photographs on in that same album is the following image: http://www.rogerco.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/list122/stanf.jpg
Clearly from a mounted corps/unit and wearing a stable/forage jacket with similar cuff details to http://www.rogerco.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/list122/sarof.jpg
Certainly not 24th! I would suggest Dragoons or Dragoon Guards.
For Zulu War subjects in his collection look at http://www.rogerco.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/cass/port.htm
