I'm not sure Small Pox was in the Zulu War , it's highly contagious so you'd think 1,000's would be affected ? . Cant remember reading of it being present . As usual happy to be corrected or enlightened 90th

Ray . As 24th has posted there isnt any evidence of Small Pox being present in Natal or Zululand during the war . HMS Boadicea's cases were discovered when the ship was at Simon's Bay , which from memory is near Capetown ? , nowhere near Zululand . I do remember reading the Boadicea was moored off -shore until the Small box was contained , the ship then setting sail to Durban and arriving after the start of the war , possibly March ? . 90th

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] This is the old burial ground near Simonstown. I seem to recall seeing a couple of graves there while doing some research for POT. Spot on 90th Simonstown is just down the peninsular from Cape Town. Cheers

Hi All Yes there was smallpox on Boadicea etc , but the question was referring to the zulu war , not Capetown or Simons Bay , which are on the opposite side of the continent and therefore having no relevance to the actual conflict . I'm assuming that's what this thread is about ? Cheers 90th
