"Tribute to Richard Mussen a soldier of the Shankill This mural provides the history of the Shankill war hero Richard Mussen who served in both the Zulu War and WWI. Mussen joined the Royal Inniskillen Fusiliers (27th Foot) at the age of 15 and at 18 volunteered for active service in the Zulu War and was transferred to the South Wales Borderers (24th Foot). He was one of the few survivors of the Battle of Rorke's Drift (1879). The following year he was invalided out of the army but again joined the colours at the outbreak of WWI serving in 9th Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles (36th Divison) on duties within Northern Ireland."

He did join 2/24th from 18 Jul 1879. Issued with SA Medal (no clasp). The story is always good for that extra fee pint of beer. And it sells newspapers.
