I am interested in Lt. C Everitt and anything about him, at all.
The photo? I would love to know who it is. The tile underneath is cracked, it may just be a photo put there to cover the damage?

And yes, sorry I do have the disease - I have been going to the Battlefields (Fugitives Drift Lodge) for the past four years and will be going again in August. Although we have been to Hlobane before, this year will be even more special – I know roughly where this took place.
Can you confirm if the rocks (sangar) at the head of Devils Pass, is where Anstey, Everitt and the few made the stand, before being rescued by Buller on the descent?

And then I start thinking;
Buller received the box on his return, it is a high quality travelling writing box (made for taking on your travels), he was not known for scrimping on his luggage - did he take it to the Sudan and both Boer Wars?
Just imagine what may have been written on that box (orders?), who and what may have taken place about it.
Yes, I do love Buller’s box (that I get to look after)!

Any help, suggestions or advice would be most appreciated.

The only Anstey I'm aware of that made a last stand in the Zulu War was Edgar Oliphant Anstey , this was on the banks of the Manzimnyana stream , after withdrawing from Isandlwana . From memory I counted 7 Cairns there when I walked the Fugitives trail last year , it was disappointing to see how far they had withdrawn before being overcome Sad

. You can see the Isandlwana mountain back in the distance , they managed to get a fair way along the trail . Anstey was born in South Australia , his parents were English , Anstey is buried in the family Vault at Woking Cemetery , England . He would have his own thread , use the Search box on the left , type in his name , and a lot of info should pop up ! . The Buller Box , is that the same one that was for sale from IMA USA ? .

My mind was also on the trail,I did mean Captain C. D'Arcy, also part of Buller's VC.
But anything I can find about Lt Everitt would be appreciated.

The CDV/Cabinet looks like a Naval Officer to me, A Anchor on the cap badge ?? and Naval Braiding on the Sleeves??
Did Redvers have any Naval men in the family??

Buller did have a relative, from the Crediton branch of the family, that served in the RN and became an Admiral. Redvers himself is descended form, I think, of the Shillingham Bullers.

I wonder if it is Merchant Navy. No crown or laurels on the hat badge and the sleeve brading is very narrow. If it is Royal Navy he is a lieutenant.

The only thing that universally agreed with this CDV is that the chap is indeed a Lt ! . It isnt a RN Uniform from the time of the AZW , that is according to our ex-resident expert Petty Officer Tom .
