"SALIS-SCHWABE, George; (1843-1907), Lieutenant-Colonel, 16th Lancers. Salis-Schwabe was born 6th July 1843 the son of the late Salis Schwabe, DL, of Rhodes, Middleton, Lancashire and Glyn Garth, Anglesey, and Julia, daughter of the late G. Schwabe, Esq.

He was educated at University College School, London, where he was awarded a BA. Salis-Schwabe married Mary Jacqueline, daughter of the late the Rt. Hon. Sir William Milbourne James, Lord Justice of Appeal in 1870. Salis-Schwabe attained the rank lieutenant-colonel commanding the 16th Lancers.

He was then promoted to brigadier major of Calvary at the Curragh county Kildare,and at Aldershot in England between 1873 and 1877. He served in Anglo Zulu Campaign 1879 and was a partner in the firm of Salis-Schwabe & Co., Calico Printers, of Rhodes and Manchester.

Salis-Schwabe represented the constituency of Middleton in south Lancashire as a Liberal member of parliament from 1885 until the general election in 1886. He was also PayMasters-General at Royal Hospital.866 George Salis-Schwabe died on the 13th June, 1907, at Bad Kissingen, Germany, where his remains were buried.
