I think its two families as well.

It may be worth looking at the obituaries in the Cape Papers, thats if the microfilm readers in the CT Library are working.

Its funny that the Cape Civil Service lists didn't mention service with the 24th but covered everything else he did from the Gun War onwards. That entry does tie in with the Land Board appointment you mentioned though.

From letters I've seen written by James Bickley to his wife, Cam Simpson's biography of James Bickley's career has it on the nose.
