PostSubject: Hill of the Sphinx   Hill of the Sphinx EmptyThu Jul 13, 2017 3:19 am

I have an acquaintance who'd like to buy a second-hand Hill of the Sphinx by David Jackson. Does anyone have a copy they wish to sell?
Please pm me with your e-mail address and I'll pass it on to my acquaintance.

Hill of the Sphinx Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hill of the Sphinx   Hill of the Sphinx EmptyMon May 28, 2018 5:34 am

Dear Members
I have just registered today.
My farther acquired an Adams III .450 revolver from a Pretorious family in Standeron in 1938.
When my father passed I inherited the Adams revolver in 1973
My father advised me that that revolver was originally given to Commandat-General Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus Pretorius by Paul Kruger in +/-1840.
I had it specailly framed in special glass and wooden frame and hangs in my bar area.
Sadly as a proud South African I have decided to emigrate early next year and my concience guided me not to take such a precious piece of Afrikana History from South Africa and am willing to part with this valuable hand gun at a fair market value to some earstwhile collector in South Africa.
I look forward to your replies

Firstly - many thanks to the members who responded to my post about the Adams Mk III .450 revolver that I mentioned.
Secondly I appreciate the trouble members have gone to to correct the history of the revolver and the Pres Kruger issue.
It was certainly not my intention to attempt to deliberately misinform.
The information I received was as my father was told by his boyhood friend - a Pretorius - who also lived in Standerton and was a close friend of my father. Unfortunately I do not know his first name.
This Pretorius boy at the time told my dad that the gun was handed to his great great grandfather Andries Pretorius by Paul Kruger -which was clearly a false statement.
From the information provided by the members above that could clearly not be the case.
So I have always had a prize weapon and I am now somewhat embarrassed and disappointed that the authenticity of the revolver is so wrong.
Again I apologise for forwarding wrong information, it certainly was not my intent.
When my dad was given the revolver as a boy, he totally believed in his friends story of its origin - and why should he have disbelieved his friend as afterall the boy was a Pretorius.
So no doubt the value to me or a prospective new owner has dropped considerably.
As someone who places integrity above most all else I have been severely embarrassed.
However I know there are many collectors of antiques, as I have been for many years, that may wish to contact me about the Adams. I have it mounted in a beautiful box frame but do not know how to paste a picture in this forum
I have nevertheless asked the leading antique auctioneers in Johannesburg to give me an appraisal of the revolvers collectors value prior to it changing hands
With best regards to all

Hill of the Sphinx Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hill of the Sphinx   Hill of the Sphinx EmptyFri Jul 29, 2022 11:42 am

I have a number of copies of Hill of the Sphinx - as pristine as the day they came from the publisher. I've taken some soundings as to their current value from various forum members and others and intend to make these available at a VERY reasonable price. I know that's what David Jackson would have wanted. So, if you want one, please pm me.
