| Hi Elizabeth,
I am very pleased to see that the book on your grandfather, titled "Lt Col G.S.Mardall and his family", ex NMP/NP is now on the book shelves. Congratulations . The culmination of many years hard work by you and your co-author and sister Caroline. The anecdotes and pictures of places ( particularly Colonial Pietermaritzburg) and personalities of the AZW era in Natal as well as later times will be of great interest to historians at all levels.
regards

| Hi Gary, Good to hear from you down under. Yes all is well here. To answer your question ; I have not seen the book yet but knew it was in the works some time ago. Elizabeth contacted me for some information in the past so I knew it was being worked on. She told me yesterday via email that it has now hit the book stores. I cannot yet comment on the exact contents of her work but know much of it is about her grandfather's life in the NMP/NP, having arrived in Pietermaritzburg and joining up about a month after Isandlwana. In fact his draft of recruits was specifically brought from England by Dartnell to make up for the attrition in the NMP suffered as a result of the battle. Elizabeth Thom, the author, is George Mardall's granddaughter and is a member of this forum, so can be contacted via this medium for more information.
regards
