George Adams Radmore was born in Ide, Devon on 29 June 1848. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1863. In July 1873 he served aboard HMS Amythest and as an Able Seaman in the Ashanti war he went ashore with the naval brigade, entitling him to the Ashanti Medal with clasp. He served aboard HMS Shah in the Pacific and was present during the battle between the Peruvian rebel ship “Huascar” and the “Shah. In 1879 he was still aboard “Shah” and served with the naval brigade during the Zulu War entitling him to the South Africa Medal with “1879” clasp. He was pensioned ashore as a Petty Officer 1st Class in May 1887. George died at Tavistock, Devon in 1924.
