| PTE. J. MORRISSEY 2/4TH FOOT
2555 is his personal army number. 2/4th Foot were the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Regiment of Foot - This was the "King's Own Royal Regiment". His medal and clasp are confirmed on the medal roll. The South Africa Medal was awarded to all personnel who had served in any of the campaigns in South Africa between September 1877 and December 1879: the bar for 1879 indicates that the recipient actually saw service in Zululand between 11 January and 1 September. Designed by William and L.C. Wyon, The observe has the Wyon profile of Queen Victoria and on the reverse, an African lion crouching in submission beside a protea shrub with a Zulu shield and four crossed assegais in the exergue.

| hi pete, Its a little more than what you can pick them up for , quickly browsing my book , the cheapest available at the moment are one for 450 and another 460 . That was at 18th AUG . The 450 medal PVT J. KELLY 3/60TH , the 460 medal to PVT. C. WEST 99TH , these obviously are imperial soldiers with the 1879 clasp. cheers 90th.
ps. These are not ebay medals , but from a medal dealer. cheers.

| hi pete , there is no set price , basically dealers estimate the medals worth in their own eyes and charge accordingly. I will list the prices later today as set out in the MEDAL YEARBOOK from 2008, i dont own the 2009 copy, if i think of it, i will put the prices in from the 2001 book to compare the difference , which is considerable !. cheers 90th. |

| Hi All, I'm the one who put that medal up for sale, and I'm not a medal dealer. I was presented this medal by my grandmother when I married an armyman 36 yrs ago. I would appreciate your help to know more about it. Thanx, Kavita. |

| Hi Kavita. Happy New Year to your good self.
I haven't given up. Just having to refine the searches. All I’m coming up with it the selling of the medal and what we already know. Refining the searches doe's Help, it fishes out the forgotten bits of information with documents. But its takes time using hyphens ECT. Hang in there. I have about 15 searches to complete for other members but in no particular order. |
