| Subject: Ceremonial dress of the uDloko regiment in 1879 ? Mon Jul 11, 2022 1:55 pm | |
| Hello everyone and especially those I enjoyed conversing with on this forum years ago for years before giving up and well before my return the 2020-08-05.
So here is what I need
Please , I need color illustrations (or a period photo?) representing the “Udloko” regiment in 1879 (not in 1856!) and in ceremonial dress.
Thanks to those who will help me.

| Pascal As I'm sure you already know, the Osprey series no. 56 has a plate (C) showing an uDhlokho warrior. |

| Hi Julian,
How have you been in years since we've talked about our Zulu friends ?
This is not in the Osprey MA.A. Series N° 56? but in the M.A.A. Series N°57 where it is a question of the Zulus, but alas, there is no illustration of a warrior from the uDloko regiment in this M.A.A...
On the other hand in the Osprey Elite Serie N°21, we find an illustration of a warrior of the uDloko, but in 1856, alas not in 1879 because in 1879, their outfit had changed a lot...
What I'm looking for is a color illustration of a uDloko warrior in ceremonial dress in 1879.
Thanks,
Pascal |

| No illustration, however, in "Uniforms & Weapons of the Zulu War" by Christopher Wilkinson-Laytham there is a short description:
Udhloko (Name of a snake): The headband was of otter skin which was ornamented with one long blue crane (indwe) feather in the center of the forehead. The ear flaps were of green monkey skin and the white cow-tail necklace hung down over the chest and back. The shields were red with a white spot.
That said, when I modeled them (in field dress), I used modified RalPartha NNC for the regiment.
Hope this helps.

| Hello Vince,
And thanks for the info.
Is that just her ceremonial dress?
It's weird that this Ibutho hasn't been illustrated...
In 1879 which Ibutho would resemble him the most?
Cheer,
Pascal |

| Pascal,
I believe it is the full dress.
What figure line are you using?
I use the old RalPartha line and would suggest 88-018 Zulu umBonambi Regiment for the long blue feather in the center of the headband. |

| Vince,
Now I only use 25mm MiniFigs to make wargames of all eras (if you have 25mm Minifigs for sale that are no longer in the Caliver Books catalog, send me a list) and rules from before the WRG, so from before 1970, on the other hand I have not yet found a rule for colonial wars, published before 1970. |
