| Hello all, Does anyone have any information on the Pietermaritzburg Remount Depot during the war? Any records, photos, etc? Was it simply an office? Any help or clues greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lee |

| Lee,
Unfortunately I have no recollection of any such photographs, and I rather specialise in photographs.

| Lee, I wonder if Gary - 90th - is thinking about photographs of the stock market in PMB? In the meantime I hope this photograph is of some use. | Lee, Taken in Secunderabad circa 1880/1, but prior to the 1881 Dress Regulations being implemented. It shows a group of officers in patrol jackets & tropical dress. The photograph came from a broken-up photograph album that was subsequently donated to Soldiers Home & Sailors Rest, Queenstown, now known as Cobh. There is some speculation that the original album was Russell’s own album. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]12th (Prince of Wales’) Lancers, Secunderabad 1880/1. | Thank you John. There are some albums of Russell’s in the Suffolk Archives but they’re mostly turn of the century. Lee |

| Lee,
There are some photographs of the Prince of Wales’ visit to India in 1875 currently on EBay, it is more than likely that Russell is pictured in them. As they are of the future Edward VII on a tiger hunt the prices are somewhat beyond my pension.

| John, Those are pricey. I don’t see Russell but sometimes it’s hard to tell. By the way that picture you posted is probably of the 12th Lancers officers. To the left of Russell is Hon. Walter John Stewart. There are other pictures of the officer group in the 9th/12th Lancers museum. Lee |

| Lee,
Thanks for the tip on the Museum’s archive, there are an awful lot of Lord William Beresford V.C. in the 9th Lancers’ albums. Now to find the 12th’s material.

| John, sure no problem. I’d love to see the albums in Suffolk but alas I’m in the US. Please let me know if you ever come across any others of Russell. Lee |

I take it you have seen the photograph of Russell in his Asante War kit that is in the Royal Collection Trust, Windsor Castle?
