| Hi Kate
This might be him:
Joseph Papworth born in Barton in 1852, his parents were James and Ann (Reeve) Papworth. James was a farm labourer.
Joseph joined the army in 1872 when he was 19 and 3months of age. He served a total of 42 years and was re engaged for the great war 1914 - 1918. He served with the medical corps and was later an orderly in the Sergeants Mess. He served abroad on two occasions, one of these was in South Africa 1879 - 1881. He received two decorations, the long Service Good Conduct and the 1911 King George V Coronation medal. Joseph married Ann Bryant from Gloucester in 1880. They had the following Children;
Joseph James Annie Elizabeth 18.11.86 Susannah 26.4.87 Jesse 19.1.88 William George 24.4.91 Edith May 22.3.92
Having served so many years it is possible he served on many other tours also. This has been put together by a family member and does not include his full military service.
