I picked this one up the other day.

It shows Crawford Caffin as a Lieutenant whilst serving aboard H.M.S. Zealous, part of the Pacific Squadron.

The photograph was taken in a studio in San Francisco, California and is dated 10th May 1872.

Hi Tom,

How goes the recuperation?

I could not believe my luck finding the photograph, as I’d just been writing about him on the Natal teaching Cetshwayo how to write his name.

Keep well “Shipmate”
