Hi 1879graves,

It easy when you have access to UK newspapers on-line just key in the search key 'zulu'. Then declare to all what you have found on the forum. Wonderful! The clever bit is going to the next stage and adding to the story. John Moreland's name appears in a number of Welsh newspapers between 1889-1900 being drunk - and he spends time Swansea jail as he cannot pay the fine imposed. There is a John Moreland born Belfast in 1845. He appears on the 1881 census as a soldier on 6th Foot based at the Tower of London. There is John Moreland who died in Belfast on 14/10/1919. There is John Moreland who served in the merchant navy in 1870 aboard SS Belgravia. Now we need someone with more skills and time to put the real 'flesh on the bones'.

Many thanks for the information, your time and skills.

From your information I can ascertain that this John Moreland was in the 64th Brigade and was in South Africa after the Zulu War, so he did not take part in the Zulu War.
