PostSubject: Pronunciation of Gonville Bromhead?   Pronunciation of Gonville Bromhead? EmptyWed Feb 19, 2020 9:19 pm

I've seen a couple different opinions on the pronunciation of Bromhead's name, and I am thoroughly puzzled. How is it pronounced, & how do we know it's pronounced that way? scratch
Thanks!

Interesting derivations and variations in spelling incl. one Brumhead. Members of the current generation of Gonville's descendants state categorically that their surname is and was pronounced Brumhead. This pronunciation gave rise to Gonville's nickname in the regiment.
