"Henry Lamb was born at Youghal, Co. Cork on 16 January 1838 and entered the Army Medical Department as an Assistant Surgeon in October 1860.
He subsequently witnessed active service in New Zealand in the period 1863-65 (Medal) and was advanced to Surgeon Major in November 1875. It was in the same rank that he served in the Zulu War in 1879 (Medal No Clasp). Lamb was placed on the Retired List as a Brigadier Surgeon in May 1881 and died at Shirley on 2 August 1902."
