A cdv of Captain Robert Frederick Willoughby, circa 1885.
(John Young Collection.)

Photographed by Bala, of Ayr, whilst serving as the Adjutant of the Ayrshire Rifle Volunteers, circa 1885.

Willoughby served with the 2nd/21st in 1879, however, he remained at Fort Napier, Pietermaritzburg, in command of two depot companies only rejoining the rest of the battalion in August 1879.

Present at the storming of the stronghold of Sekhukhune in late 1879, where he was slightly wounded.  It was for that campaign, rather than the Zulu War that he received the Medal with clasp 1879.

Is that the same Willoughby that copied Newmans iSandlwana map and added his own name?

Frank,

No, that was Digby Willoughby of the Natal Native Contingent.

I see Cape Town isn't off to a good start for 2022.
