"Essex is really a remarkable county for longevity, and Tiptree can claim a rare number old 'uns. There they have Mrs. Betty Pennick, aged 105; Mrs. Harrington, who although still does her own washing, and joys a pipe of baccy;" Wm. Harrington, locally known " Old Stuck," still does odd jobs of carpentry at the age of 90, and is up with the lark; Mr. Wm. Bicknell still goes shaving at the age of 78—he served with the 24th S.W.B. in the Zulu War; and there are other instances of aged activity."

William Bicknell dies june 1/4 1928 in Maldon District Essex which includes Tiptree.
