Due to recent events on this forum, we have now imposed a zero tolerance to harassment and bullying. All reports will be treated seriously, and will lead to a permanent ban of both membership and IP address.
Any member blatantly corresponding in a deliberate and provoking manner will be removed from the forum as quickly as possible after the event.
If any members are being harassed behind the scenes PM facility by any member/s here at 1879zuluwar.com please do not hesitate to forward the offending text.
We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.
There is no excuse for harassment or bullying of anyone by another person on this site.
The above applies to the main frame areas of the forum.

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Cheshire Observer - Saturday 03 December 1938 I know it says Cheshire Regiment but that bar is quite distinct could this be 1155 T McGowan 2/24th 1877-78-79 clasp? |

| This 2/24th man was not at RD: McGOWAN Thomas – Private – 25B/1155 – 2nd/24th Served in the Kaffir (sic) & Zulu Wars 1877-8-9. Arrived at Casemate Barracks, Gibraltar in the Mediterranean 13/1/1880 aboard H.M.S.Orontes. South Africa Medal with clasp 1877-8-9.

| Hi All, Thomas McGowan b.1860 Great Boughton Cheshire {birth Dates range 1855 to 1865]. 1891 census Suffolk St Chester he Police Constable married to Hariette, 1901 census 8 Back Queen St Chester still Policeman, married to Mercy Ann, 1911 same address. Married Hariette Smith 1889, married 2nd Mercy Ann Page 1896 Chester. WW1 Enlistment No.3295 7th Cheshire Regt, Thomas McGowan age 50 [a lie] ex 24th and 22nd Regts, add 8 Back Queen St, date 2 Jan 1915. to Royal Defence Corps 28 April 1916 Nos. 20058 + 30325 to 4 Jan 1918. 3yrs 3 days service all in the UK. His Medical Report for discharge, gives age 62 also No.1155 24th [2/24] and 1269 Cheshire regts and a discharge date of 1888. This report dated 20 Nov 1917. T McGowan served 2/24 Zulu War 1877/8/9 clasp. T McGowan dies June Qtr 1918 Chester Age 52. Not 100% that this is McGowan 2/24 because this would give a birth date of 1866. Rai Keynshamlighthorse. |
