There is no Joseph Davenport listed in the medal rolls for the 2/24th (or 1/24th for that matter)
I can only find a Private 1290 William Davenport 2/24th Imperial Mounted Infantry who was dangerously wounded at Inyezane and died of disease at the Lower Tugula on 3/5/1879

Edric Frederick Giffard was in a Lieutenant in the 2/24th during the third Anglo Ashanti War in 1874 but left the 2/24th in 1876
He was back in SA as aide-de camp to Sir Garnet Wolseley during the AZW so bits of this article are sort of true.

However there is something odd about this article and a bit suspect.
He was at iSandlwana and Gingindlovu? Suspect Suspect

Thanks Julian. Salute
I thought he might have been IMI as it was the only way he could have possibly been at, iSandlwana (though he was clearly not, if he was 2nd Squadron)and Gingindlovu but could not find him in your IMI lists in Hope' book.
Mystery solved

I suspect Isandhlwana was a typo for Inyezane.

Kate
At the time (30+ years ago) I found that the pay lists often confused the two Davenports, William and joseph such that it was difficult to tell which one was in the IMI. I ultimately plumped for one of them - William - because he died at Eshowe. Many years after publication I came across Joseph's account which confirmed his MI duty. Both will appear in a revised MI essay in vol VI of the Studies.
They weren't brothers by the way, one was born in Kent the other in Shropshire.
