Served with the Regiment thoughout the war being present at Gingindlovu, relief of Eshowe, the advance of Crealocks Divison to Port Durnford and operations of Clarke's column.

Herbert James 57th Zulu War, the 1939 registry gives his birth date as 12 Nov 1859, Col Indian Army, Widow, address 5 Godwyn Road, Folkestone. His Probate gives same address in Folkestone but he dies on 1 March 1943 at 131 Ivor Court, Regents Park, London. The only burial record i found gives a burial date of 1 March 1943 so i do not think this is the correct burial.
