According to the medal rolls his SAGS medal only has an 1878 clasp.
M+S shows him being posted to the Transvaal during the Zulu war.
However just to double check I looked at the casualty lists for Ulundi.
N/t of a  Savage and there is no mention of a wound in Tavender's

Savage was in Sth Africa March 11th 1876 - March 14th 1880 , Acting District Paymaster Lydenburg Nov 15th 1878 - Oct 22nd 1879 . Entitled to medal with 1878-79 Clasp . From Robert Hope's ' A Staffordshire Regiment In The Zulu & Sekukuni Campaigns 1878-1879 ' .
