Hi all

Thought this may interest some:

The Aberdare Times 1 March 1879

The King's Dragoon Guards are "heavies" tall men of fine physique. The Troopers are armed with brass helmets, swords (30 inches in the blade) and breech loading Carbines. The 17th Lancers are medium Cavalry and are armed with Lance's (6 feet 3 inches long) and rifled pistol.
The Engineers and Infantry are provided with the ordinary Martini-Henry and bayonet.
