Battle of Hlobane & Kambula Books - Other than  : Blood on the Painted Mountain, The Boiling Cauldron,  Hlobane and Khambula The Forgotten Epic of How the Anglo-Zulu War was Lost and Won, and The Frontier Light Horse in the AZW 1879....any other books specifically focus on the Northern Campaign ?

I can't think of any others of the top of my head.

I've got 3 of the 4, but not the FLH one.

Cheers

Hi 61 Mech
There's ' Running The Gauntlet ' by George Mossop.. a book on his life etc , Mossop was at both Hlobane and Kambula along with Ulundi ,
' From Midshipman To Field Marshall ' by Col Evelyn Wood who was in Command at Both Battles , ( there are other books by Wood or written about him which in part will also cover Hlobane ,Kambula , and Ulundi , but not sure on how much detail will be within ) , there's also ' Zulu Frontiersman ' Major C.J. Dennison , Edited by Lock and Quantrill , Dennison was a member of the Border Horse surviving Hlobane present at Kambula the next day , I thought it a little disappointing re the AZW content , was much more written about the Boer War , in saying that there are some excellent snippets of information regarding the dealings of Dennison with Buller and Wood etc . Also ' With The Irregulars In The Transvaal & Zululand ' by W.H. Tomasson , who was a member of the Border Horse taking part at Hlobane , Kambula and Ulundi , it's only 115 pages or so but it covers the Zulu War for 60 or so pages , his coverage of Hlobane & Kambula runs to 10 pages or so .

Morning Simon...I have a huge interest on the Northern Campaign. I think one reason is that I grew up in that general area. Kumbula was less than a km from my grandfathers farm.Ezere

Hiya

I have been trying to get into it, (as a break from RD and Isandlwana) and have recently bought the Boiling Cauldron...I've not finished it yet - it's a bit wordy.

I have found BotPM very good but I wasn't impressed over-all with the Hlobane book - but to be fair I'm still reading it.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Sime
The Boiling Cauldron in parts I found heavy work dealing with the earlier history of the area , but in fairness , I did read read it many years ago when at that time , I had very little interest in much of anything pre 1879 certainly different nowadays , might be to early in the morning for me Sime but what is BotPM ? Very Happy

In "the Zulu War then and now" by Knight/Castle all battles of the Zulu war are mentionned with some explanation.

Henry Evelyn Wood V.C. wrote two pieces on Hlobane that were published in Pearson’s Magazine in the 1890’s, one centred on Campbell, the other on Buller.  Both articles were reprinted in The Journal of the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society.  The same articles were again republished in one of the Leonaur booklets on the Zulu War, the title of which currently escapes me.

There’s my interpretation of the battles available at https://www.rorkesdriftvc.com/hlobane.htm and https://www.rorkesdriftvc.com/khambula.htm
