Julian,

It is a misinterpretation of the original report. Captain Hugh Dawnay, the Viscount Downe, 2nd Life Guards, discovered the body of Vereker and …At his hands it received a soldier’s sepulture.

So that accounts for ‘Lord’ & ‘Downe’ in the above report.

Julian,

I have recently been working on a joint project with Brecon that concerns Vereker, so the reference was familiar to me.

Not wishing to compromise any project but was the location of Vererkers body recorded?

Thanks a lot

Simon,

I suppose there may be some correspondence between Viscount Downe and Lord Gort, but that is just me surmising.

The project is actually a proposed model farm project in KwaZulu-Natal, close to where His Late Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini is planted. It is a joint project between members of the Zulu Royal House and The Friends of the Royal Welsh Museum supported the University of Wales, and what is now the Royal Agricultural University - formerly College - Cirencester, which was Vereker’s alma mater. I believe that Vereker’s name is to be used in some context in the project.
