Alexander Martin PATERSON 16th or Bedfordshire Regiment; 10 Oct 1865 Ensign or 2nd Lieutenant 9th Oct 1867 Lieutenant 30th Oct 1874 Captain He served in Cork in 1878

"Major Paterson served as the Deputy Assistant Quarter Master at Durban during the latter part of the Zulu war of 1879 (medal)" 1 Jul 1881 Major (1887 in Madras)
Colonel 1st Battalion Herts Regiment. Burial on parents' obelisk
