He served during the War, first in command of three companies on the Transvaal frontier, and afterwards as commandant of the Leydenburg District, served subsequently in the operations against Sekukuni till invalided.

Lieutenant-Colonel - South Staffordshire Regiment (1st Battalion) - 1st July 1881
Aide-de-camp to Govr. Queensland - January 1867 to July 1880
New Zealand War - 1863-66 - Actions at Kilumaru, Ranglawhia and Nukumaru, and Putaki Pass. Medal.
Perak Expedition - 1875-6 - Medal with Clasp.
South African War - 1778-79 - operations against Sekukuni, 78 and 79 - Zulu Campaign - Mentioned in Despatches. Medal with Clasp
